Rhinoplasty

Balance beyond aesthetics

The rhinoplasty, also called a “nose job”  is an intervention that restores the harmony of the face and the proportions of your nose.

This intervention can also correct breathing problems caused by defects inside the nose. This procedure is increasingly requested by patients, becase it enhances facial harmony.

A rhinoplasty can treat:

  • nose size in relation to the facial features;
  • nose width, nostrils size, nasal profile (which may be humped or has certain deformities);
  • septum deviations;
  • nasal tip;
  • nasal asymmetry.

If you want a nose with a much more symmetrical appearance, you have to remember that everyone has an asymmetrical face more or less, and no one can guarantee the perfect symmetry.

However, you can achieve a significant improvement in the appearance of the nose and the facial balance.

Rhinoplasty for the correction of deviated septum requires a much more careful evaluation of the nasal structures.

Correction of deviated septum is done by adjusting the nasal structure for better alignment.

The  surgical access for nose remodeling is ensured by the delicate rising of the soft tissues that cover the nose.

In case the nasal structures enlargement is wanted or necessary, a cartilage graft from another area of the body can be used, most frequent anatomical part  being the nasal  cartilaginous septum, from the middle portion of the nose. In some situations, nose or costal cartilage can be used. The breath improvement in case of septum deviation is done through septoplasty, the surgery of the cartilaginous septum.

What should I expect during a consultation for rhinoplasty?

During your rhinoplasty consultation be prepared to discuss:

  • your surgical goals, with regard to both appearance and breathing;
  • a 3D animation showing your wanted result;
  • your medical conditions, drug allergies and previous medical treatments;
  • current medications, vitamins, herbal supplements, alcohol, tobacco and drug use;
  • previous surgeries.

The surgeon may also:

  • evaluate the options available to you for nose reshaping
  • examine and measure your face
  • take photos
  • discuss your nose surgery options
  • recommend a course of treatment
  • discuss likely outcomes of a nose surgery and any risks or potential complications.

Am I a good candidate for rhinoplasty?

Men and women of all ages benefit from rhinoplasty. Nose reshaping is one of the more popular plastic surgery procedures for teenage patients too, although plastic surgeons take special care when evaluating whether or not a younger patient is ready for rhinoplasty.

It is important to have realistic expectations. Rhinoplasty can help you improve upon your existing nose, but it cannot deliver “perfection” nor can it give you the nose of someone else.

A skilled, qualified plastic surgeon will explain to you what is possible and help you achieve a nose that looks natural with your unique features.

A nose job is recommended for:

  • a person whose facial features are fully developed;
  • physically healthy persons;
  • non-smokers;
  • person who has an optimistic outlook and realistic expectations for improving their appearance.

To prepare for the rhinoplasty procedure, you will be asked to:

  • take your blood tests;
  • stop smoking;
  • avoid taking aspirin or any anti-inflammatory drugs because they increase bleeding. Do not stop them without talking to the doctor!
  • do not use other drugs.
  •
